In 2005, Matt Gunnels and John Damman saved up $1,500 and blindly moved from Michigan to Wyoming. They didn’t yet have a destination in mind but had a dream of finding a better opportunity. They wound up at the Flying J truck stop in Casper, WY. After seven days of homelessness they found a small studio apartment. With a little luck and determination not to return home as failures; they started their first oilfield jobs at Blackmax Downhole Tools.

With several influential mentors and a few challenges, they finally got the hang of it. Blackmax sold out a year later and Matt sought a career at Smith International as a NDT Inspector. John went onto Weatherford International. Four years later John was ready to move into a field position and Matt was able to get him on with Smith in Williston, ND as Field Service Technician. Matt would later suggest that with his knowledge of inspection and John's sociability they could start their own inspection company.
In December of 2010 Matt and John did just that. They took a small loan, borrowed a pickup truck and started Panther Inspection. They took on the toughest jobs on the coldest days and were determined to earn the respect and trust of their customers:

"From the very beginning we knew our approach would have to be hands-on and straightforward. In order to compete against our large competitors we’d have to hold ourselves to a higher standard of accountability and have a personal touch with our customer service. Our customers always loved the fact that they could call the owners 24/7 with any issues or needs they might have. We never complained and were always grateful and humble because we knew our customers didn't have to use us. We knew if we could provide an accurate inspection and make the whole process hassle free we could be successful. We believe character is defined by what you do when nobody is looking and we believe that is what set us apart. As with anything in life, you have to genuinely want it with everything you have- whether you want to be a good parent, doctor or entrepreneur-the “want” was going to be the deciding factor." -John Damman
Today, Panther's drive and ambition is stronger than ever. We pride ourselves on the quality relationships and friends we’ve made along the way. We are thankful to our amazing team who make it all possible. One of the most rewarding aspects is the longevity of our customer base. We always thought it made absolutely no sense to earn a new customer just to turn around and burn that bridge. The goal is always to build upon the respect and trust of our current clients and our reputation will speak for itself with future customers.
